OLD MAIN ROOM MEMORIALIZES PETER BURNS ‘75
Family and friends of Peter C. Burns ‘75, who passed away in 1985, gathered on Sunday, Sept. 10, 1989, for a dedication of a room in Old Main to his memory.
Richard B. Burns, father of Peter and a former member of the Delbarton Fathers and Friends, welcomed a crowd of guests that filled the front hall of Old Main. Speaking on behalf of the family,
Douglas B. Burns ‘77 paid tribute to his brother’s experience at Delbarton, in particular how important Old Main was to him and other boarding students.
Abbot Brian H. Clarke, O.S.B., spoke briefly about the School’s plans to undertake a major renovation of Old Main along with several other improvements in physical facilities over the next several years.
He added that the Burns family had stepped forward to express an interest in the building’s renovation as a means of developing a memorial to their son. In recognition of the generosity of the Burns family and friends, he revealed a dedicatory plaque on the door of the west room at the front of Old Main.
Following the introductory remarks, the room was opened for the assembled guests, who also viewed an architect’s model of planned campus development. A reception on the Senior Porch followed.
The dedication ceremony was attended by members of the Burns family, classmates of Peter Burns and their families, friends of the Burns family and members of the monastic community.
Gifts in support of the Peter Burns Memorial Room may be sent to the development office.
